Principal Investigator

Dr. Lauren Rutter

Dr. Lauren Rutter (she/her) is an Assistant Professor at Indiana University in the Clinical Science area of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. In addition to her academic role, Dr. Rutter is a licensed clinical psychologist in Indiana and Massachusetts and is authorized to practice interjurisdictional telepsychology through PSYPACT. Dr. Rutter maintains a small private practice and has supervised clinical training through Indiana University’s Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic. She also directs the Assessment Clinic at IU. She received a B.A. in Psychology and Comparative Humanities from Bucknell University and then worked as a research technician at the National Center for PTSD before beginning graduate training. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Boston University at the Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders. She completed her APA-accredited predoctoral internship at McLean Hospital and stayed at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School for her postdoctoral training at the Institute for Technology and Psychiatry. Her work is currently supported by a National Institute on Aging Career Development Award (K01) and an R01 award from the National Institute of Mental Health. Graduate Students

square-jiayin.jpgJiayin Jiang is a second-year clinical science PhD student at IU. She is interested in exploring the development and maintenance of psychological disorders and improving people`s access to mental health services by leveraging innovative techniques for assessments and treatments. Jiayin received her BA in applied psychology at Hong Kong Baptist University (UIC) and MS in clinical mental health counseling at Johns Hopkins University. In her spare time, Jiayin enjoys watching musicals, cooking, and working as a diligent fisher at Stardew Valley.
noor Noor is a first-year clinical science PhD student at IU. She is interested in better understanding the associations between social cognition and internalizing symptoms of mental health disorders. Noor received her B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience from the Ohio State University in 2023 and then worked there for two years as a research assistant in the Buckeye Brain Aging Lab. She spends her free time bouncing from one hobby to another but lately has enjoyed reading mystery novels and doodling on every piece of paper she can get her hands on.
juliaJulia Kim is a first-year clinical psychology graduate student at Indiana University, beginning in Fall 2025. She earned her B.A. in psychology from the University of Vermont and subsequently worked as a research coordinator there for several years. Her primary focus has been on trauma and sexual assault victims, particularly examining protective factors such as gratitude and social support. Looking ahead, she is interested in exploring how maladaptive coping mechanisms manifest on social media platforms through language. She also loves to play video games in her free time and spend time with her cat, Yuubi. After spending some time in Vermont, she has improved her skills as a skier and can safely traverse down greens.

Austin Boyle is a sophomore at IU majoring in Psychology. He is interested in depression and anxiety and their links to cognitive ability. Along with his involvement in Dr. Rutter's lab, he participates in the psychology club, and plays on an intramural soccer and badminton team. Austin enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, and playing video games.

Abigail Edwards is a junior at IU majoring in clinical psychological science, planning to pursue a Ph.D or Psy.D in clinical psychology. She is interested in adolescent and geriatric psychology and neuroscience. Abigail is also a data coder for the Cognitive Development Lab at IU led by Dr. Linda Smith. In addition to this, she is a member of the Clinical Psychology, Emergence Magazine, and American Conservation Coalition clubs at IU. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, ceramics, and hiking.

Kristina Vincic is a junior at IU majoring in clinical psychology and minoring in counseling and sociology. She plans to pursue at Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology. She is interested in how injuries to the brain and brain diseases impact behavior. Outside of the lab, she is on the track and field team at IU. Her other interests include spending time with friends, family, dogs, and the outdoors.

Claire Kilgore is a sophomore at IU majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in Chemistry and Social Science and Medicine, planning to pursue of MD-PhD or MD. She is interested in emotional disorders and how they affect cognition and behavior. On campus, she participates in letters of love and neuroscience club.  In her free time, Claire enjoys spending time with her family, baking, crocheting, reading, and playing tennis.
